Goals

Goals for 2024

Happy New Year!

I love setting goals for myself as it allows me to step outside of my comfort zone and focus on the things I really want to accomplish throughout the year. The past couple of years have been career focused but now I want to get back to focusing on what is important to me and my overall wellbeing.

In addition to writing my goals for the year I like to include a theme that represents the kind of year I am working towards. Previous themes I’ve had were consistency, mindfulness, purpose and grace. This year’s theme is Growth – as an individual, in my blog, in my relationships, etc.

Health

Health is a big one because I haven’t worked out since June 2023, and I want to get back to a consistent cadence in my movement. When I get busy this tends to be the first thing I stop and as I get older, I need to make this a priority.

  1. Move 4x a week – This doesn’t have to be a gym workout. It can be me going to a dance class or going for a walk. I just want to get away from my desk and do something to get me moving.
  2. Cut down on sugary drinks – A few years ago, I quit drinking soda and now I want to cut down on other sugary drinks. I don’t want to remove them 100% because I love sweet tea and that is something I will never give up.
  3. Quality sleep – My aim is to get a solid 7 hours of sleep and by solid, I mean restful.

Finances

This is a financial journey blog, so it is only fitting to have financial goals. I am still on my million-dollar journey but being a homeowner has definitely split my focus.

  1. Save 20% towards Financial Freedom – I split this between my retirement, brokerage and emergency fund. Saving 20% keeps me on track even though I have other commitments.
  2. Cashflow Renovations – We are adding a basement and an ensuite to the primary and don’t want to go to the bank for a loan. We don’t have to complete everything during 2024 so this will definitely be a 2024-26 goal.
  3. Create a financial binder – I have documents here and there but I would like to have everything in one place. This binder will hold important documents, numbers, passwords, whatever one would need if something happened to the other.

Development

Being 1% better than the previous day is all I am aiming for.

  1. Read 10 pages a day – Normally I set a goal for the number of books I want to read but I think by sticking to pages I could get through more than that. I am not sticking to any genre; I am just going to read whatever book piques my interest.
  2. Complete 365 days of Drops – Drops is an app that gives you a foreign language lesson in 5 minutes a day. My highest streak is 37 days so 365 is a stretch goal but I got this!
  3. Finish CPD before September – Every year I wait last minute to complete my hours. I want to spread them out evenly throughout the year, so I don’t have to stress and rush to get it done.

Relationships

As an adult I have realized that most of my relationships are canceled plans, rescheduled lunch dates or yearly catchups crammed into an hour. My only goal is to have 4 dates a month with the people I care about. These dates include 1 with my husband, 1 with my friends, 1 with my family and 1 with myself.

Overall, I am excited to see what 2024 holds and I’m entering this new year with an open mind to whatever comes my way.

What are your goals for 2024? Have you created a plan of action? Did you break it down into manageable daily tasks?
